About Master Sudoku

Master puzzles keep only 25 or 26 clues. Many boards open with a handful of easy placements and then demand advanced eliminations to go any further.

This level is for players who enjoy the slow, careful kind of solve — the kind you might spread across a morning coffee and an evening break. Your progress saves automatically, so you can.

Hardest techniqueSwordfish & XYZ-Wing
Difficulty5 of 6

Every master puzzle is checked by our step-by-step solver before you see it: it must need techniques up to Swordfish & XYZ-Wing — and at least X-Wing & XY-Wing. So the label always matches the challenge. Stuck? The hint button names the technique and walks you through it.

Best for

Advanced solvers who are comfortable with X-Wing and want sustained difficulty.

Techniques you will use

  • X-Wing & Swordfish
  • XY-Wing
  • Skyscraper
  • Hidden triples

Playing master-level Sudoku

  • Build a complete, accurate candidate grid before hunting for patterns. Accuracy matters more than speed here.
  • XY-Wing: a pivot cell with candidates XY sees two pincers, XZ and YZ. Any cell that sees both pincers cannot be Z.
  • Skyscraper and Swordfish extend X-Wing logic to uneven or larger patterns — scan one digit at a time to spot them.
  • Take breaks. Fresh eyes find patterns that tired ones skip over.

Frequently asked questions

Is master harder than expert?

Yes. Master boards have fewer clues (25–26) and more often require wings and fish patterns rather than just pairs and triples.

Can I pause a master puzzle and come back tomorrow?

Yes. Your game is saved on this device. When you return, it waits on a pause screen so the timer does not run until you are ready.

What if I make three mistakes?

The game ends after three wrong entries. Use pencil notes for anything you are not sure about — notes never count as mistakes.
